Volunteer Service in social areas for "Best Agers"

People aged 50 and older are from now on offered a 6-week stay abroad in Berlin. The aim of this project is to offer the opportunity of improving one's personal, linguistic, social and intercultural competences and skills in order to contribute to the development of European civil society by volunteering in a social or cultural institution in Berlin.

The project is aimed at citizens of the United Kingdom and Germany of 50 years old or more. You have the opportunity to experience a different culture and to work with young people as volunteer. The aim is to promote intercultural and especially cross-generational relationships through voluntary activities. The volunteers have the opportunity to share with younger people, discover a different culture and apply their own skills to contribute to social development. This exchange will address age-related barriers and contribute to unite different generations in one society.

The Society for European education will raise the value of solidarity, cooperation, understanding and assistance on the basis of reciprocity. Volunteers are placed in schools, kindergartens or non-profit organizations where they will deal with young people, children or persons from disadvantaged backgrounds. The service time is 30 to 40 hours per week. The project includes:

  • 6 weeks voluntary service (intensive language course in the first week)
  • pre-departure seminars for personal, linguistic and cultural preparation
  • follow-up after returning with an evaluation of personal impressions and experiences during the stay

The host organization in Slovenia gives participants a comprehensive introduction to the activities, is in charge of looking for an accommodation and each a mentor is always available to accompany the volunteers during the stay.
